labradorite

Labradorite is mined in Madagascar and first discovered in Labrador, Canada, this flashing iridescent gemstone is part of an Eskimo legend, It is believed that the Northern Lights were once imprisoned by an evil force in the rocks along the coast of Labrador. The story continues when a wandering Eskimo warrior finds them and was able to free most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear to be returned to their rightful place in the northern skies for all to see.  Some of the lights remained trapped within the stone, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite
